Public Affairs Officers Must be Proactive – Commissioner Soyebi

Public Affairs Officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have been urged to be proactive and ensure proper management of information as the Commission aims to constantly communicate its policies, plans and actions with stakeholders.

National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Prince Solomon A. Soyebi, made the call yesterday while declaring open the INEC Communication Policy/Strategy Review Workshop, held at Newton Park Hotel, Abuja.

The National Commissioner, pointed out that there was need to revive communication activities especially in the state offices, which he observed had gone down to the lowest ebb, compared to the recent past where Information Officers had worked in Unison to achieve the Commission’s goals.

Prince Soyebi, expressed optimism that the workshop which was aimed to review the Commission’s Communication Policy, would impact positively on INEC’s communication activities.

He called on participants who were drawn from the states and the headquarters to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills provided by the workshop and share ideas on how best to improve the Commission’s Communication Policy.

The Workshop was put together with the support of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).
